WHEREAS, for many years labor unions have fought for better working conditions and safer workplace environments, to help prevent injuries and fatalities on the job; and
WHEREAS, the Allegheny County Labor Council has held a Workers' Memorial Day event for the past twelve years, to remember those who have died in workplace accidents, and to raise awareness about worker safety; and
WHEREAS, the following individuals who lost their lives in 2012-2013 were remembered at this year's event:
Chester Sipes;
Joshua Oswalt;
John F. Hazel, Jr.;
Paul McCandless;
Melivin Kinsinger;
Edward Mock;
Robert L. Evens, Jr.;
Judith Kollar;
Harold E. Taylor, Jr.;
Joseph A. Koletich;
David Bergman;
Monica Proviano;
George M. Adam, III;
Antonio Sciulli;
Theodore Babich;
Andrew L. Reed; and
WHEREAS, Workers' Memorial Day serves as an important reminder that we must always remember the dead and fight for the living!

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and honor the Allegheny County Labor Council for organizing such an important event; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Monday, April 29, 2013, to be "Workers' Memorial Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
