Title
Resolution authorizing and directing the Director of Parks & Recreation to establish a working taskforce comprised of the Department of Parks & Recreation, the Department of City Planning, the Farmers Market Alliance and other community organizations and businesses to establish permanent locations for all Citiparks farmers markets. The Director of Parks & Recreation will report back to council within 60 days to report the taskforce's progress.
Body
Whereas, farmers markets throughout the City of Pittsburgh contribute to the vitality and character of the neighborhoods; and
Whereas, farmers markets provide the residents of those neighborhoods with fresh and affordable locally grown produce; and
Whereas, farmers markets contribute to the economic stability of family –run farms and much of the proceeds from the sales constitute a significant portion of the family's income; and
Whereas, currently, four of the six farmers markets operated in the City of Pittsburgh are threatened with possible relocation; and
Whereas, the relocation of those farmer's markets could cause hardship for the residents needing to travel to the new sites, and also for the farmers needing to rebuild their clientele.
Be it resolved that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby enacts as follows:
Section 1. Authorizes and directs the Director of Parks & Recreation to chair a working taskforce comprised of the Department of Parks & Recreation, the Department of City Planning, the Farmers Market Alliance and other community organizations and businesses to establish permanent locations for all Citiparks farmers markets. The Director of Parks & Recreation will report back to council within 60 days to report the taskforce's progress.
