Whereas, on Sunday May 15, 2005 the Woman's Day Committee will honor Reverend Allie Mae Johnson at the Historic Saint James A.M.E. Church in the Woman's day program ; and
Whereas, the lord anointed Reverend Allie Mae Johnson at 12 years old. At the age of 25 she was a Missionary/Evangelist out of Saint James Church. In 1942 Reverend Allie Mae Johnson was licensed by the Bishop of the A.M.E. Church to be an Evangelist and minister for 30 years in A.M.E.; and
Whereas, in 1959, Reverend Allie Mae Johnson was accepted into the A.M.E. Zion Church and placed into the conference. She served for two years at the Homewood A.M.E. Zion Church and in 1960, she was ordained a Deacon. Reverend Allie Mae Johnson pastored the Blairsville and the Indiana A.M.E. Church at the same time for four years. In Indiana, her Church was placed into the Council of Churches and was invited by the Mayor's Office for three years straight to give the Invocation at the opening of the Indiana County Fair. A stain glass window was installed in the Indiana Church in her honor; and
Whereas, Reverend Allie Mae Johnson served in Jennette for four years and the West End Church for one year. After retiring from Pastoral services, she helped the Uniontown Church and was given an Assistance Pastorship. Reverend Allie Mae Johnson has preached and served in every A.M.E. Zion Church in Pittsburgh and the surrounding areas. She also preached in many C.M.E., A.M.E. Baptist Churches. Reverend Allie Mae Johnson was the first ordained woman to be asked by a Baptist Pastor to preach in a Baptist Church; and
Whereas, Reverend Allie Mae Johnson was born in Graham, Alabama on September 5, 1905. Raised in Carrollton, Georgia and went to Atlanta to attend nursing school after graduating from high school. She came to Pittsburgh in 1929 and married Hobson S. Johnson and has lived in her current address since January 22, 1938. Reverend Allie Mae Johnson was also...
