WHEREAS, World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD) is a global awareness day which has been officially observed by the United Nations on March 21 since 2012; and,

WHEREAS, the date for WDSD being the 21st day of the 3rd month, was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome which causes Down syndrome; and,
WHEREAS, Judah Scott is a proud Pittsburgh resident with Down Syndrome; and,
WHEREAS, Judah inspired his mother, Teaira Collins, to found Lion of Judah Enterprises, a nonprofit organization for people of color with Down syndrome; and,
WHEREAS, Lion of Judah Enterprises shows the world that, with the right people surrounding, encouraging, and believing in them, our children can do anything they want to do and be anything they want to be; and,
WHEREAS, Judah has a huge heart, is smart and funny and the life of the party, and can bring a whole crowd together with the incredible power of his smile, warmth, and amazing bear hugs; and,
WHEREAS, WDSD is observed to advocate for the rights, inclusion and well-being of people with Down syndrome across the world; and,
WHEREAS, World Down Syndrome Day’s theme in 2024 is “End the Stereotypes,” and,
WHEREAS, every day Judah helps to end stereotypes about people with Down Syndrome through his open heart, his sense of humor, his intelligence, and the love he gives his community; and,
WHERAS, we are all lucky to be living in Ju Bug’s World;
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare March 21, 2024 to be “Judah Scott Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
