Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh commends Earl V. Jones, Sr. on twenty years of work and dedication on his efforts to encourage peace in the world through his Peace on Earth Campaign. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that today, April 26, 2004 be hereby declared "Peace on Earth Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the Peace on Earth Campaign was founded 20 years ago by Earl V. Jones, Sr.   This program promotes the merits of world peace locally and internationally; and
 
WHEREAS, children in grade schools across Allegheny County write essays and draw pictures interpreting their views on how to promote peace on earth; and
 
WHEREAS, out of all the entries, a total of twenty children receive $100.00 savings bonds, peace medals and proclamations; and
 
WHEREAS, Mr. Jones began his mission in the City of Pittsburgh and since then, his efforts have expanded to Allegheny County and around the world including Russia; and
 
WHEREAS, Mr. Jones designed one of the worlds largest peace banners. Last year it was sent to Ireland for display, and when returned was then donated on behalf of all the children in the United States to President George W. Bush for placement in the White House.
