Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City Pittsburgh commends the Pittsburgh Darfur Emergency Coalition and its co-sponsors for their continued efforts to end the genocide in Darfur; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares May 18, 2008, "Darfur March and Rally Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, on May 18, 2008, the Pittsburgh Darfur Emergency Coalition and its cosponsors will host a march and rally for Darfur that will begin at Freedom Corner; and
 
WHEREAS, the march and rally is the culmination of the Destroyed Villages Project which has worked to call attention to the 2,751 villages in Darfur that have been destroyed or severely damaged; and
 
WHEREAS, during the march, individuals will carry signs with the names of the destroyed villages; and
 
WHEREAS, two and a half million Darfuris have been driven from their homes and destroyed villages and are living in refugee camps and towns in conditions of extreme instability and insecurity.
