WHEREAS, the long tradition of tolerance and full enfranchisement of all citizens’ rights in Pittsburgh continues with the Delta Foundation of Pittsburgh’s annual Pittsburgh Pride Fest, celebrated June 3rd-12th, 2016, with numerous events throughout the city and culminating with the Pittsburgh Pride Equality March and Pride Fest celebration in Downtown Pittsburgh on Sunday, June 12th, 2016; and,
WHEREAS, the People of Pittsburgh have a long history of supporting and demanding that all citizens are fully enfranchised with their inherent and inalienable Constitutional rights, and have stood in opposition to those who would deny the rights of others, promote intolerance, and deny us all the peace and happiness of a free and open society; and,
WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Pittsburgh fully embraces the concept of equal protection under the law and justice for all, including our fellow citizens who identify themselves as being lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, and transgendered in our community, as is evidenced by the protections afforded by the Pittsburgh Human Relations Commission and embodied by law in the City Code; and,
WHEREAS, the Delta Foundation of Pittsburgh, the organizer of the celebration of Pittsburgh Pride Week, and chief sponsors UPMC, EQT, Images, American Eagle, Highmark, iHeart Radio, Comcast, Mylan, and PNC Bank, along with numerous other organizations and individuals, will be participating in the Pride Week activities and march; and,

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the Delta Foundation of Pittsburgh for organizing the Pittsburgh Pride celebrations and for their work to secure tolerance in our hearts and equality in our laws in the Pittsburgh region; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare June 3rd-12th, 2016 to be "Pittsburgh Pride Week" in the City of Pittsburgh.
