WHEREAS, a graduate of Pittsburgh Creative and Performing Arts High School (CAPA), Civic Light Opera Academy, SUNY Purchase, and New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, Kyle Abraham is a renowned and award-winning choreographer and performer; and,
WHEREAS, in 2012, Kyle was appointed as a New York Live Arts Resident Commissioned Artist, and he was named a 2012 Ford Fellow, 2013 MacArthur Fellow, and 2015 City Center Choreographer in Residence; and,
WHEREAS, Kyle has earned numerous awards, including the prestigious Bessie Award for Outstanding Performance in Dance, a Princess Grace Award, Jacob's Pillow Award, and a Doris Duke Award; and,
WHEREAS, in 2009, Dance Magazine named him to their list of 25 dance professionals to watch, and in 2011, OUT Magazine called him "one of the best and brightest creative talents to emerge in New York City in the age of Obama"; and,
WHEREAS, Kyle currently serves as a visiting professor in residence at UCLA and the Artistic Director for his company, Abraham.In.Motion; and,
WHEREAS, his choreography has been presented in cities in the United States and countries around the world, including New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Montreal, Italy, Sweden, France, Jordan, Ecuador, Ireland, Japan, and at several venues in his hometown of Pittsburgh; and,
WHEREAS, Kyle is known for critically acclaimed choreographic performances that relate to personal experiences, including Another Night, Untitled America, The Serpent and The Smoke, and Dearest Home, and he choreographed the feature-length film, The Book of Henry; and,
WHEREAS, Kyle and Abraham In Motion will be performing a trio of choreographic works in Pittsburgh: The Quiet Dance, Absent Matter, and The Gettin', all of which portray racial injustice, personal identity, and isolation throughout history and today.; and,
