WHEREAS, The City of Pittsburgh is honored to host Governor Rendell and the Pennsylvania Commission for Women's third annual Pennsylvania Governor's Conference for Women on September 14, 2006 at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in The City of Pittsburgh; and
WHEREAS, Thousands of women from all over the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will join the Governor and First Lady for this memorable event that will include a breakfast, luncheon, key note speakers, and seminars on all aspects of women's leadership. In addition to keynote speakers and delegates, our city will host many high school aged females participating in the Young Women's Forum; and
WHEREAS, in recognition of the vital role that education plays in a woman's success, the Governor will announce and introduce the recipients of the Pennsylvania Governor's Conference for Women Scholarship which will award accomplished high school seniors $400,000 in four-year partial scholarships to one of Pennsylvanian's many prestigious colleges and universities; and
WHEREAS, this conference will give those in attendance the opportunity to reflect on our aspirations and successes as well as confront the challenges we still face as women in the twentieth century of every race and ethnic background.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that The City of Pittsburgh recognizes women's leadership abilities and the critical contributions that women continue to make in every sector of our nation which continue to advance and strengthen America;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares Thursday, September 14, 2006, "The Pennsylvania Governor's Conference for Women Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
