WHEREAS, during Breast Cancer Awareness month, Real Men Wear Pink is an opportunity for men to raise awareness and funds for the American Cancer Society’s breast cancer initiatives such as patient services, education, screenings and risk reduction; and,
WHEREAS, breast cancer is the most common cancer type in women, second to skin cancers, with over 260,000 estimated new cases of invasive breast cancer being diagnosed this year and it is estimated that over 2,400 cases will be diagnosed in men; and,
WHEREAS, because of continued prevention and treatment efforts, however, survival rates continue to rise with over 3.1 million breast cancer survivors in the United States, including women still being treated and those who have completed treatment; and,
WHEREAS, Real Men Wear Pink participants are committed to wearing pink throughout October and raise awareness and financial donations to fight breast cancer in order to see a climb in the survival rates in the City of Pittsburgh and across the United States; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Patrick Vaughan is one such participant who is hosting a fundraiser on Saturday, October 19, 2019 at Coach’s Bottleshop and Grille in Banksville beginning at 6:00 PM; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Mr. Vaughan for helping to increase breast cancer awareness and potentially save lives as part of the Real Men Wear Pink campaign; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare, Saturday, October 19, 2019 to be “Patrick Vaughan and Breast Cancer Awareness Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
