WHEREAS, WQED Multimedia's dedication to producing and presenting programs of the highest quality has won them more than 250 local, national, and international awards for excellence; and
WHEREAS, WQED Multimedia, which includes WQED television, WQED 89.3 FM, the WQED Educational and Community Resource Center, and Pittsburgh Magazine, pioneered the first classroom broadcast to an elementary school in the United States in 1955 and has continued that tradition of excellence with the production of Children's Corner, Mister Roger's Neighborhood, Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego, and now The War That Made America; and
WHEREAS, The War That Made America brings to life the French and Indian War, a tremendously important, but poorly understood chapter of American history; and
WHEREAS, this presentation by Pittsburgh based WQED Multimedia is the first PBS documentary in the country to introduce television viewers to the early military career of George Washington; and
WHEREAS, WQED Multimedia has lived up to its name with the production of The War That Made America, which in addition to the television documentary, also includes a website, companion book and soundtrack CD; and
WHEREAS, The War That Made America is a four-hour production that premieres Wednesdays, January 18th and 25th from 9-11 PM on PBS.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh congratulates and thanks WQED Multimedia for this magnificent presentation that brings a new light to one of our country's most important chapters in history; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares Wednesday, January 18, 2006, "The War That Made America Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
