WHEREAS, the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians, established in 1894, is a sororal of Irish Catholic women committed to the mission of Friendship, Unity and Christian Charity through service in the United States and support of Ireland and the North of Ireland. They are committed to protecting young Immigrant Irish women coming to the United Sates and assisting them in securing work and providing them with support and encouragement ;and,

WHEREAS, its 4 Major Principles…promoting Friendship, Unity and Christian Charity, fostering and sustaining loyalty to the Roman Catholic Church as well as loyalty to the United States, supporting the Irish People and their independence, ad fostering the ideals of the history and traditions of the Irish People and promoting Irish culture, the LAAOH aided the men in their efforts to perpetuate the ancestry, providing aid to the sick, needy and defense of the Church and Country; and,
WHEREAS, a new Constitution in 1985 dropped the word “auxiliary” in its title and LAOH gained jurisdiction of its own affairs, whereby each Division in 35 different states, raises thousands of dollars in their own community and nationally. In addition to Columban Fathers and Sisters,, SOAR, Project Saint Patrick and Freedom for All Ireland, the LAOH raised aid for the people of Ukraine; and,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend and congratulate the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians for 128 years of dedicated service to promote and protect Irish Heritage and Culture, for educating younger generations on the importance of preserving their Irish Heritage, for its support of the Catholic Church, for its support and loyalty to Ireland and its positive relationship between Ireland and the United States and for its philanthropic endeavors.
