WHEREAS, Judy Hackel has been a resident of Allentown for 30 years and has tirelessly dedicated her time to the advancement of the neighborhood, having served as president of the Allentown CDC and volunteered with many community initiatives; and,
WHEREAS, Mrs. Hackel has been married to her husband, Joe, for 36 years and is the proud mother of three, Joelynn, Jennifer, and Julia, and grandmother of five; and,
WHEREAS, Mrs. Hackel was instrumental in moving the Zone 3 Police Station into Allentown, creating a better connection between the police department and the Hilltop neighborhoods and improving public safety in these areas; and,
WHEREAS, Mrs. Hackel has shown her compassion for four-legged friends through her participation in Animal Friends' events such as Bark in the Park and the Blessing of the Animals; and,
WHEREAS, Mrs. Hackel has volunteered many hours cleaning and greening the Hilltop, developing 12 corner lot gardens with the Pittsburgh Conservancy and helping students from the University of Pittsburgh in clean-ups around the neighborhood; and,
WHEREAS, Mrs. Hackel has assisted with the Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank's Farm Stand, bringing fresh produce to residents of the Hilltop; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Pittsburgh recognizes Judy Hackel's tireless commitment to Allentown and the Hilltop and her many gracious acts of kindness in sacrificing her time to better her neighborhood; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare February 26, 2013 to be "Judy Hackel Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
