WHEREAS, Regina McDonald is one of the organizers of St. Philip Parish's Annual Calendar Party Luncheon held at Bishop Canevin High School. This fundraiser began 22 years ago at the former parish of Holy Innocents and has raised tens of thousands of dollars since for the church; and,

WHEREAS, Regina has been a staple to her church and her community of Sheraden. In 1980, she represented the Sheraden Improvement Association on the Community Advisory Committee, tasked with making recommendations to desegregate Pittsburgh Public Schools. Regina distinguished herself professionally in her career as a police officer. Two hundred years after Pittsburgh was founded, she became the first woman to ever serve as chief of the city's police force; and,
WHEREAS, she is a Eucharistic Minister at St. Philip Parish, serving both at Mass and to those who are homebound. She also volunteers her time with the Society of St. Vincent DePaul Council of Pittsburgh; and,
WHEREAS, her volunteerism to St. Philip Parish is relentless as she assists at foodbank distributions and fish fry dinners and co-hosts a table at the calendar party. She is also an adult faith formation volunteer, promoting and nurturing faith within the lives of the adults in her community; and,
WHEREAS, because of her selfless volunteerism, she is a two-time recipient of the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh's Manifesting the Kingdom Award, presented by Bishop David Zubik. Every two years, people from every parish in the diocese - along with members of local religious congregations - are chosen to receive the award for exceptional church service and demonstrating "the presence of Jesus in their lives"; and,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Regina McDonald for her service and commitment to her parish and community; and,
