Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh, congratulates the American Cancer Society's Greater Pittsburgh Unit on being named NUMBER ONE IN THE NATION for the year 2003 Daffodil Days campaign, and wishes it even greater success with the 2004 campaign; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that March 14 to 20, 2005 be declared "DAFFODIL DAYS" in the City of Pittsburgh

WHEREAS, cancer will strike approximately 70,800 people in Pennsylvania this year; and
 
WHEREAS, 2005 marks the 32nd anniversary of the American Cancer Society's Daffodil Days Program; and
 
WHEREAS, the daffodil is the first flower of spring, and since 1973 has been the American Cancer Society's symbol of hope that cancer can be beaten; and
 
WHEREAS, in 2004 the American Cancer Society's Greater Pittsburgh Unit was NUMBER ONE IN THE NATION by raising more than $340,000.00, all of which benefits the Society's programs of cancer research, education and patient services; and
 
WHEREAS, as of July 1, 2003, almost $25.6 million in research grants to fight cancer were in effect at institutions throughout Pennsylvania; and
 
WHEREAS, this year March 14 to 20, 2005 are designated "Daffodil Days" with Jason Ross chairperson, and Sally Wiggin of WTAE-TV, for the seventeenth year, honorary chairwoman and over 200 resident volunteers  to help distribute and sell flowers during Daffodil Days; and;
 
WHEREAS, sponsors for the 2005 Daffodil Days locally include Comcast, Oncology-Hematology Associates, Quest Diagnostics, Inc. and statewide the sponsor is UPS, Incorporated.
