WHEREAS, Dr. Anthony Silvestre started Pitt Men’s Study in 1984, and guided its operations for more than three decades and,
WHEREAS, PMS is the longest-running HIV study in the United States; and,
WHEREAS, Dr. Silvestre, in his work with PMS and PATF (now Allies for Health and Wellbeing) helped support, protect and inform at-risk groups about HIV and other issues impacting the LGBTQ community; and,
WHEREAS, Tony’s expertise supporting and working with people living with HIV is so recognized that he was selected to serve as the United States Liaison for HIV in the World Health Organization in the early 1990s; and,
WHEREAS, In 2018, Pitt Men’s Study Co-Investigator Dr. Anthony Silvestre officially announced his retirement; and,
WHEREAS, Dr. Silvestre has been awarded the prestigious designation of Professor Emeritus at the University of Pittsburgh; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does recognize, celebrate and thank Dr. Silvestre for all of his achievements and his impacts in public health; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, September 21st, 2019 to be “Dr. Tony Silvestre Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
