Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh salutes Stephen H. Jordan, recipient of this year's Howard A. Mermelstein Leadership Award, for his many years of service to the Jewish Family & Children's Service and our community.

WHEREAS, believing that strong individuals and families create healthy communities, the mission of Pittsburgh's Jewish Family & Children's Service ("JF&CS") is to make a positive difference in the lives of individuals and families through psychological, employment and social services; and
 
WHEREAS, JF&CS was founded in 1937 and has been guided throughout its history by talented individuals who have achieved a high standard of excellence in lay leadership; and
 
WHEREAS, this year, prominent labor lawyer Stephen H. Jordan will be presented with the Dr. Howard A. Mermelstein Leadership Award at JF&CS's Annual Meeting on Thursday, May 18, at 7:00 p.m.; and
 
WHEREAS, the Dr. Howard A. Mermelstein Award was established in 1993 and is given to a JF&CS Board Member who displays leadership, talent, and commitment to the community and dedication to the mission of JF&CS; and
 
WHEREAS, Stephen H. Jordan has been a Member of the JF&CS Board of Directors since 1999, serving on the Executive Committee in various positions since 2001, including currently serving as Assistant Secretary; and
 
WHEREAS, Stephen H. Jordan is a sought-out Board Member for various institutions and non-profits, and has served on many Boards, including Community Day School, the Jewish Community Center and the Jewish Education Institute; and
 
WHEREAS Stephen H. Jordan, a Member of the law firm Rothman Gordon, is an Arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association and has been adjunct faculty for the Philip Murray Institute of Labor Studies at the Pennsylvania State University; and
 
WHEREAS, Stephen is the husband of Attorney Susan Foreman Jordan and the proud father of Sarah and Noah.
