WHEREAS, The Children’s Home of Pittsburgh Pediatric VIEW is hosting the first annual conference on Innovations in Cortical Visual Impairment (CVI) November 1 and November 2 at Sheraton Station Square; and,

WHEREAS, Cortical Visual Impairment is the leading cause of visual impairment in children in which the eyes can see but the brain cannot process what is being seen. The condition is often misdiagnosed as autism or attention deficit disorders, and children who have CVI often struggle in other areas of development; and,

 

WHEREAS, the Pediatric VIEW practice is devoted to CVI advocacy by promoting awareness, identifying those who are at risk, and collaborating with professionals to improve outcomes in development and learning; and,

 

WHEREAS, Dr. Christine Roman-Lantzy, the Director of the Pediatric VIEW, will be facilitating the conference. Dr. Roman Lantzy is a former teacher of the visually impaired and former research assistant in the Vision Studies program at the University of Pittsburgh. She has lectured extensively using the CVI materials she has developed, and is the author of Cortical Visual Impairment: An Approach to Assessment and Intervention, and Cortical Visual Impairment: Advanced Principles; and, 

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the Pediatric VIEW Program of The Children’s Home of Pittsburgh & Lemieux Family Center for its extensive work in CVI; and,

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, October 24, 2023 to be “Pediatric VIEW Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
