Title: WHEREAS, On Saturday, April 28th and Sunday, April 29th, 2007, eight year old Marissa Nicholas organized a cleanup with friends, family, and fellow CCD students from Brookline to beautify the area in front of Our Lady of Loretta Church on Pioneer Avenue; and WHEREAS, Marissa sought out residents to either donate their time or money to aid in the cleanup effort. She collected over $500 in monetary donations and, once word got out of her project, received flower donations from Daniel's Landscaping, as well as countless hours of volunteering from residents; and WHEREAS, Marissa's goal in beautifying the area in front of the church is to encourage more residents to attend church service; and WHEREAS, Marissa is a third grader at West Liberty Elementary, on Dunster Street in Brookline and has maintained a 4.0 GPA since she started school and is consistently on the honor roll. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the efforts of Marissa Nicholas to beautify her neighborhood and her church; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh proclaims that Tuesday, May 22nd, 2007 is "Marissa Nicholas Day" in the City of Pittsburgh!
