WHEREAS, positive adult males play a significant role in the life of a child. By increasing the number of parents and guardians who actively participate in the academic and social activities of their children, they can impact their child's ability to excel in school and succeed in life; and
WHEREAS, those adult males who accept the responsibility and the challenge of raising and teaching children possess the unique talents of understanding and leadership and as a result, are able to touch, shape and impact lives; and
WHEREAS, in May of 1999, the Pittsburgh Public School Board established "Take Your Father to School Day". This day encourages participation from all fathers, grandfathers, uncles, brothers or any adult male to come to their child's school and take part in the day's activities; and
WHEREAS, last year over 3,500 adult males visited Pittsburgh's 93 public schools and participated in "Donuts with Dads", events at lunchtime, workshops, reading to students and sharing information about themselves and their careers with entire classes; and
WHEREAS, on May 27, 2004, the Pittsburgh Board of Public Education will sponsor a "Take Your Father to School Rally" at the Central Administration Building, Conference Room A from 6:30PM until 8:30PM; and
WHEREAS, on May 28, 2004 the Pittsburgh Board of Public Education will celebrate the 6th Annual Take Your Father to School Day in Pittsburgh Public Schools.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh commends and thanks the Pittsburgh School Board of Public Education and all volunteers for their work in facilitating "Take Your Father to School Day" and for fostering the importance of a having a positive male role model in a child's life. The Council of the City of Pittsburgh urges fathers, uncles, cousins and other adult males to attend school on May 28, 2004 and show support for their children's education.
