WHEREAS, founded in 1992, Pittsburgh Cares seeks to advance a culture of volunteerism and ease the process of civic engagement; and,
WHEREAS, the organization offers a diverse range of opportunities to businesses, groups, other nonprofits, and individuals looking to engage in volunteerism; and,
WHEREAS, by customizing the volunteer experience based on time, venue, skill, and more, Pittsburgh Cares can attract more interested people to donate their time and energy to pressing social needs facing our city; and,
WHEREAS, signature programs include their flagship volunteer matching calendar at www.pittsburghcares.org, the Youth Engaged in Service (YES) initiative, and the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP); and,
WHEREAS, the YES initiative connects youth between the ages of 5-21 with service projects and leadership development programs. Last year alone, the YES initiative engaged 3,833 young Pittsburghers in 15,332 hours of service; and,
WHEREAS, RSVP links Pittsburghers aged 55 and older to organizations in need of dedicated volunteers with unique skillsets, and in 2016, the program connected 486 senior citizens to service opportunities; and,
WHEREAS, last year alone, Pittsburgh Cares engaged over 13,000 volunteers in 26,000 hours of services, and collaborated with 614 nonprofits and 200 businesses to complete community service projects in all corners of the Pittsburgh region; and,
WHEREAS, in celebration of 25 years, Pittsburgh Cares is hosting a fundraiser and volunteer fair at the Union Project on September 21st from 6:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m. to highlight volunteer opportunities at more than 60 local nonprofit organizations; and,
