WHEREAS, the members of the Bureau of Emergency Medical Services and the Fraternal Association of Professional Paramedics devote their careers to saving the lives of others and promotes the improvement of pre-hospital medical care through practice, research and community service; and
WHEREAS, Emergency Medical Teams consist of highly trained Paramedics, First Responders, Telecommunications Officers, Physicians and Nurses whose knowledge and skills benefit the people of Pittsburgh on a daily basis; and,
WHEREAS, the Pittsburgh EMS Post Cardiac Arrest Guideline exceeds the Pennsylvania Department of Health Post Cardiac Arrest Protocol and in order to increase the rate of survival even more, the Fraternal Association of Professional Paramedics support a campaign to encourage Pittsburgh residents to learn CPR and encourage citizens to begin care as suggested by Mayor William Peduto; and,
WHEREAS, what better way to start the campaign than to acknowledge National Emergency Medical Services Week May 18 through May 24, which will serve to educate the people of Pittsburgh regarding Emergency Medical Services; and,
WHEREAS, the national theme for this year is "EMS: Dedicated. For Life"; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend the dedication and commitment of the Emergency Medical Teams to the residents of the City of Pittsburgh; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh declares May 18 through May 24 as "Emergency Medical Services Week" in the City of Pittsburgh.
