Title: NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does recognize and commend Westlynn Kay Davis for the invaluable commitment and service to the Pittsburgh Board of Public Education and improving the quality of learning life through public education.

Whereas, Westlynn Kay Davis retired from the Pittsburgh Board of Public Education as Executive Director of Student Services after 36 years of dedicated service. Her service with the Board has been from 1969 to 2005; and

Whereas, Mrs. Davis, the youngest of five children to Fredrick and Henrietta (Denson) Ollison attended A. Leo Weil Elementary School, Herron Hill Junior High School and Schenley High School. During these "old school days" she was quite social and enjoyed having a wide range of friends from many neighborhoods throughout the city; and

Whereas, after graduating from Schenley High school, Westlynn attended Cheyney State College on an academic scholarship where she joined Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Delta Iota Chapter. In the Spring of 1969, she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics with a minor in Science. Her educational journey continued as she earned a Master of Education in Counseling Degree in 1971 from the University of Pittsburgh. Mrs. Davis continued her post-graduate studies to attain several educational certifications in elementary and secondary principal administration as well as curriculum instruction and pupil personnel supervision; and

Whereas, Mrs. Davis first teaching assignment was in the fall of 1969 at Miller and Burgwin Elementary Schools. In 1972, she became the counselor at McKelvy, and later expanded her experiences at Vann, Letsche, St. Regis Elementary School, Greenway Middle School, Letsche Alternative Education Center and Schenley High School; and

Whereas, in 1991 Mrs. Davis joined the central office of Pupil Services as a counselor on special assignment which ultimately lead to six administrative appointments in student services: Supervisory Specialist for Pupil Services; Associate Director and Acting Director of Pupil Affairs; Coordinator, Senior Program Officer, and lastly, Executive Director of Student Services.
