WHEREAS, Florence, “Flo”, McNeil began working for the City of Pittsburgh on October 1, 1982 and is currently a Program Coordinator for Parks and Recreation where she oversees the planning and coordinating of the Summer Food Service Program through Citiparks; and,
WHEREAS, Flo supports the Office of Special Events with the Great Race by being their hotline operator during race week where she loves to talk to residents and answer any questions they have regarding the Great Race and is the “first line of defense” for the runners by helping them navigate the procedures for race day . On the actual race day, she would be at the city-county building at 6 AM eager to handle any last minute calls; and
WHEREAS, in addition to the Great Race, Flo assisted in many other special events in the City of Pittsburgh such as handling choirs and mascots for the City’s Tree Lighting Ceremony; and,
WHEREAS, she loves to serve and does so with such youthful energy and a positive attitude. She has taught an exercise class for seniors for many years, is a member of St. Phillips Catholic Church and a resident of the Oakwood neighborhood where she volunteers for the Oakwood Civic Council; and,
WHEREAS, Flo, who is 85 years young, grew up in the North Side with one sister and one brother and has 4 children, 2 step-children, and 4 grandchildren ; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Florence McNeil for her dedicated service to the City of Pittsburgh and her unselfish volunteerism; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, May 29, 2018, to be “Florence McNeil Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
