Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the Council of the City of Pittsburgh salutes the American Society of Highway Engineers, its leadership and members, for ever striving to meet the challenge of designing, building and maintaining safe, efficient highways.

WHEREAS, highway services provided in our community are an integral part of our citizen's everyday lives; and
 
WHEREAS, the support of an understanding and informed citizenry is vital to the safe and efficient operation of our highways; and
 
WHEREAS, the health, safety, welfare, and comfort of our community greatly depends on highway services; and
 
WHEREAS, the quality and effectiveness of highways, as well as their planning, design, construction, maintenance and operation, is vitally dependent upon the efforts and skill of highway officials; and
 
WHEREAS, the efficiency of the qualified and educated personnel who staff highway departments is materially influenced by the people's understanding of the work they perform; and
 
WHEREAS, Pittsburgh is proud to host the American Society of Highway Engineers National Conference at the Sheraton Station Square on June 2-5, 2005.
