Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh recognizes and commends the Center for Victims of Violent Crimes and the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape for educating women in our communities.

WHEREAS, in an effort to raise awareness of sexual assault and its devastating affect on victims, family, communities, and society, the Center for Victims of Violent Crime in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape will be holding a seminar series titled, "Black & Blue: Violence in the Lives of Black Women". The first series will be held on Saturday, June 26th, 2004 at Chatham College from 9 AM until 4:30 PM.  The series will give birth to an action plan to further address this multifaceted issue; and      
 
WHEREAS, violence in the lives of Black women and their children have become so pervasive that the subject has demanded special attention from the social-service and faith-based community, governmental and educational institutions and the corporate sector; and
 
WHEREAS, the Center for Victims of Violent Crime invites all communities to break the silence about the silence of violence and trauma in the lives of Black women by breaking down the institutional barriers to sensitive and appropriate care; and
 
WHEREAS, through the voice of victims, community advocates, national experts and artists the center will provide invaluable insight, resources, and directions for help and healing.
