WHEREAS, the National Council of Jewish Women, Pittsburgh Section, is a grassroots organization of volunteers and advocates who turn progressive ideals into action. Inspired by Jewish values, NCJW strives for social justice by improving the quality of life for women, children and families and safeguarding individual rights and freedoms; and,
WHEREAS, the projects of the Pittsburgh Section of National Council of Jewish Women over the last hundred and twenty one years have met many different community needs and have included the first Free Kindergarten in Pittsburgh, Head Start, Job Corps, the PA Vision Association, the Jewish Community Center , Life's Work, Pioneer School, Renaissance Center, the Komen Pittsburgh Race for the Cure, the Children's Rooms in the Courts, the Silent Witness Initiative, the Charlie Batch Pack Project, the Pic A Bag Duffle Bag Project for Foster and Homeless Children and most recently, the collaboration with the Jewish Women's Foundation to create the Center for Women; and,
WHEREAS, NCJW Pittsburgh Section will hold its 121st Annual Meeting on May 20, 2014 featuring keynote speaker Liz Murray whose story of going from Homeless to Harvard is inspiring and transformative. In addition, the Section will honor the memory of its Past President and passionate child advocate Judi Kasdan with the renaming of the Children's Playroom in Criminal Court to the Judi Kasdan Playroom in the Court; and,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the National Council of Jewish Women, Pittsburgh Section for 121 years of outstanding community service and advocacy and wishes NCJW more years of success; and,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, , that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare May 20, 2014, to be " NCJW PITTSBURGH SECTION DAY" in the City of Pittsburgh.
