WHEREAS, Val Pawlos has been named Outstanding Polonian of the year by the Pittsburgh Chapter of the Kosciuszko Foundation, a cultural and educational organization; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Pawlos is a retired employee of The City of Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority and is currently a National Business Director for the Polish National Alliance (PNA); and.
WHEREAS, he is deeply involved in the Polish Community and Polish organizations, such as the West End Pulaski Society, where he has been the President for the last 30 years, and has held numerous positions in the PNA including National Fraternal Director, National Sports Director and Secretary of Council #145; and,
WHEREAS, his community involvement has been primarily with the youth teaching them the value of teamwork and lasting friendships while coaching football, baseball and basketball on behalf the Polish organizations he represents. In addition, he is a strong advocate for Polish community events such as picnics, breakfasts and various tournaments throughout the year; and,
WHEREAS, his heritage began with his grandfather in Lublin, Poland and Mr. Pawlos’ father passed down his Polish traditions to him and his 5 siblings long ago. His greatest asset is his family; his wife Janet, daughter Erin (Eric), his son Michael(Emily) and two grandsons, Marino and Robert, who are 5th generation PNA members; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby congratulate Mr. Val Pawlos for being named Polonian of the Year and commend him for keeping his Polish heritage and traditions alive; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Saturday, September 23, 2017, to be “Val Pawlos Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
