WHEREAS, recovery from substance use disorders is possible through a variety of treatment resources, recovery support programs, and many other pathways; and,
WHEREAS, millions of people across the United States are living happy, healthy, and productive lives in recovery; and,
WHEREAS, a community of recovery is beneficial to overcoming misconceptions and helping people achieve long-term recovery; and,
WHEREAS, on September 13th, 2025, the tenth annual Pittsburgh Recovery Walk will take place across the region to celebrate the process and beauty of recovery from substance use disorder; and,
WHEREAS, Malory Spring has been a passionate Recovery Advocate in her role as Executive Director of Live 4 Tomorrow Today and beyond; and,
WHEREAS, Elexa Becton has been an exceptional Recovery Caregiver in her role as a Social Work Coordinator for Prevention Point Pittsburgh and beyond; and,
WHEREAS, Samantha Hartle has been a dedicated Recovery Pathway Supporter in her role as a Nurse Navigator at UPMC Magee-Women’s Pregnancy & Women’s Recovery Center (PWRC) and UPMC Perinatal Addiction Consultation & Education Services (PACES) and beyond; and,
WHEREAS, Malory Spring, Elexa Becton, and Samantha Hartle have been presented with Pittsburgh Recovery Awards by the 2025 Pittsburgh Recovery Walk; and,

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare the month of September 2025 to be “Addiction Recovery Month” in the City of Pittsburgh, and recognizes Malory Spring, Elexa Becton, and Samantha Hartle for their extraordinary efforts to support recovery in our region.
