WHEREAS, Dale Vezzetti, Forester for the City of Pittsburgh, was a learned and vital advocate for the maintenance of trees; and
WHEREAS, Dale Vezzetti understood that trees are a vital component of the urban landscape by providing air cleansing, shade, a habitat for wildlife as well as adding to the natural; beauty of the City; and
WHEREAS, due to the stewardship and dedication shown by Dale Vezzetti through his membership on the City of Pittsburgh Shade Tree Commission, a comprehensive inventory of trees in the City will be developed and implemented for the greater good of the City forest; and
WHEREAS, because of the efforts of Dale Vezzetti, who was the Field Day Committee Chair of the International Society of Arboriculture, the Society will hold its 80th Annual Conference and Trade Show in Pittsburgh from August 7-11, 2004; and
WHEREAS, Dale Vezzetti suddenly and tragically passed away on May 15, 2004; and
WHEREAS, on Sunday, August 8, 2004, as part of the International Society of Arboriculture's Annual Conference, a cross-state bicycling trek known as the Bicycle Tour des Trees will complete its week-long journey at Pittsburgh's West Park in Allegheny Commons, where a tree will be planted to honor Dale Vezzetti; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh commends and remembers Dale Vezzetti, whose lifetime commitment to the care and maintenance of trees and whose stellar service to neighborhood groups and the Shade Tree Commission will be appreciated by visitors to and the citizens of Pittsburgh for years to come.
