Title
Ordinance amending and supplementing the Pittsburgh Code, Title One, Administrative, Article Three, Organization, Chapter 114, Department of Permits, Licenses and Inspections, to revert the name back to the Bureau of Building Inspection and to re-attach the Bureau to the Department of Public Safety.

WHEREAS, Section 208 of the City of Pittsburgh's Home Rule Charter permits units of government to be established, revised or abolished by ordinance introduced by the Mayor or City Council; and
WHEREAS, Section 102 of the Charter defines "unit of government" as including "any subdivision of City government including any department, bureau, division, board, commission or magistrate court";
WHEREAS, under the laws of this Commonwealth and under the Home Rule Charter the City Council now wishes to continue the process of consolidating various city-services into a type of one-stop-shop, for the City's Department of Public Safety to encompass the responsibilities and functions of the current contracts and employees of the Department of PLI as set forth herein below:
The Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby enacts as follows:
Section 1. The Pittsburgh Code of Ordinances, Title One, Administrative, Article Three, Organization, Chapter 114, Department of Permits, Licenses and Inspections, is hereby amended and supplemented as follows:

The Bureau of Building Inspection is hereby declared as a subordinate division of the Department of Public Safety and is subject to the supervision of the Director of Public Safety.

The Department of Permits, Licenses, and Inspections Bureau of Building Inspection shall be under the charge of a [Director], Chief or Superintendent, who shall be the head thereof.
