WHEREAS, founded in Pittsburgh in 2009, The African American Leadership Association's (AALA) mission is to promote leadership that fosters long term results for African Americans and other minorities; and,
WHEREAS, on June 14, 2012 during the AALA fourth annual African American Leadership Summit, the presentation of the "Blazing Emerging Leaders" will be presented; and,
WHEREAS, this award goes to those who have demonstrated excellent leadership
qualities in the areas of mentorship, volunteer efforts, addressing the unique challenges for African American leaders and to individuals who are dedicated to providing a voice for African American leaders, by promoting networking and participation in the development and growth of our city and communities; and,
WHEREAS, this year's awardees for the Blazing Emerging Leaders are Tiffani Best, Charles Cook, Dr. Crenshaw, Reggie Good and Ricky Moody, who resides in District 2; and,
WHEREAS, Ricky Moody serves as a great example for our young people by advocating for his neighborhood of East Carnegie and at the request of Councilwoman Smith was appointed to the Propel Commission for District 2 and became a board member of the West End Alliance; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize each award winner and commends them for their leadership abilities; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, June 12, 2012, to be "Emerging Leaders Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
