Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend and congratulate our colleague and Mayor-elect, Bill Peduto, for his professional achievements on City Council, as he prepares to take office as our next Mayor; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Monday, December 30, 2013 to be “Bill Peduto Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Mayor-elect Bill Peduto was born and raised in the Greater Pittsburgh area, and graduated from Chartiers Valley High School in 1983. He later went on to earn his bachelor's degree from Penn State University, and a master's degree in public policy from the University of Pittsburgh; and

WHEREAS, Bill Peduto has been involved in politics for many years, and served as a general consultant, campaign manager, and finance director, among other positions for more than a dozen Democratic candidates and elected officials. He also has experience working on Capitol Hill through an internship program and as a campaign analyst with a political research firm in Washington, D.C. He began working for the City of Pittsburgh in 1995 as Chief of Staff for Councilman Dan Cohen; and

WHEREAS, Bill Peduto was first elected to serve City Council District 8 in 2001, and was later reelected in 2005 and again in 2009; and

WHEREAS, during his time on Council, Bill Peduto advocated for fiscal responsibility and pushed the City to apply for Act 47 state protection. He led Council's campaign finance reform efforts, by creating campaign finance limits, and establishing lobbyist disclosure and lobbyist registration; and

WHEREAS, Bill Peduto has spearheaded many 'green' initiatives in the City of Pittsburgh. He sponsored the Clean Air Act, which was the first clean air legislation since the era of the late Mayor David Lawrence, and wrote legislation to protect Pittsburgh's green hillsides. He is also the co-creator of the City's Comprehensive Climate Action Plan; and

WHEREAS, Bill Peduto has been involved in over $2billion in redevelopment which has created hundreds of jobs, and helped transform the City's East End; and

WHEREAS, in addition to his work on Council, Bill Peduto has run a charity fund-raising YouTube project - Pedutube, taught outdoor history lessons with Venture Outdoors, and was the Executive Producer of a documentary about the Allegheny Observ...
