Title: WHEREAS, it is important to recognize positive role models for young men in our community, Verron Haynes deserves our recognition for his outstanding accomplishments both as a talented football player and a dedicated contributor to the community; and WHEREAS, Verron Haynes was born in Woodstock, Georgia on February 17, 1979. Mr. Haynes attended North Springs High School where he began to display his talent on the football field during his junior year. He then attended Western Kentucky University and Georgia State University and received the William K. and Jane H. Holmes Endowed Football Scholarship; and WHEREAS, Verron Haynes has played with the Pittsburgh Steelers since 2002 as a running back, # 34 for the black and gold, and proudly serves as the team's spokesman for the Boys and Girls Club where he volunteers countless hours; and WHEREAS Mr. Haynes raises his three beautiful children, Taylor, Justice, and Trinity as a single father, and provides a positive role model of fat...

WHEREAS, Verron Haynes was born in Woodstock, Georgia on February 17, 1979. Mr. Haynes attended North Springs High School where he began to display his talent on the football field during his junior year. He then attended Western Kentucky University and Georgia State University and received the William K. and Jane H. Holmes Endowed Football Scholarship; and
 
WHEREAS, Verron Haynes has played with the Pittsburgh Steelers since 2002 as a running back, # 34 for the black and gold, and proudly serves as the team's spokesman for the Boys and Girls Club where he volunteers countless hours; and
 
WHEREAS Mr. Haynes raises his three beautiful children, Taylor, Justice, and Trinity as a single father, and provides a positive role model of fatherhood to young males throughout the City of Pittsburgh; and
 
WHEREAS, after the tragic loss of his cousin, Kadine DeCosta, to breast cancer, Mr. Haynes established the Verron Haynes Foundation which provides funding for continuing breast cancer research and finding a cure; and
 
WHEREAS, Mr. Haynes was featured on the front cover of the January issue of Pittsburgh Magazine as one of Pittsburgh's Twenty-Five Most Beautiful People, which proves once again that he is indeed a beautiful person both inside and out.  
 
 
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby wishes to recognize and honor Verron Haynes for his dedication to his family and thank him for serving as a role model for the Pittsburgh community.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh declares Tuesday February 13, 2007 as "Verron Haynes Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
