Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend Makayla Reber for her extraordinary kindness, unwavering strength, and inspiring commitment to serving others despite the adversities she has faced; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Monday, September 22, 2025 to be "Makayla Reber Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Makayla Reber was born on August 6, 2012, facing significant medical challenges, including brain damage cerebral palsy brought on by the NF2 gene and she was also born with a malformation requiring reconstructive surgery early in life; and,

WHEREAS, despite enduring considerable trauma by the age of thirteen, Makayla has shown remarkable resilience, compassion, and a generous spirit, consistently offering help to others whenever she can; and,

WHEREAS, Makayla is an active and dedicated volunteer in her community. She regularly helps clean up Grandview Park, reads to a kindergarten class at her old school and collects toys for children in need-often using her own allowance to contribute. While attending Abiding Missions after school program, she learned how to take care of chickens; and,

WHEREAS, she is especially devoted to assisting senior citizens, offering help with groceries, aiding them as they get off buses, and volunteering at food banks and neighborhood events; and,

WHEREAS, Makayla holds deep empathy for individuals experiencing homelessness. She frequently shares food or money with them, guided by her belief that kindness should be extended to all-especially those facing personal struggles. She sees herself as "God's special angel," committed to ensuring that no person or animal feels alone in the world; and,

WHEREAS, Makayla has participated in the Cops and Kids Camp for four consecutive years and enjoys engaging with police officers at Stop the Violence meetings, proudly collecting their business cards. She even collected a medallion from a Sergeant at this year's Arts Festival. She hopes that law enforcement and others will grow in understanding and compassion toward individuals with mental health challenges, like herself; and,

WHEREAS, when not volunteering, Makayla enjoys helping her grandmother with household tasks such as laundry, dishes, and lifting heavy items; and,
