WHEREAS, in honor of Older Americans Month, the City of Pittsburgh recognizes the many contributions of its citizens aged sixty and older, their families, and their caregivers; and
WHEREAS, this year marks the 48th anniversary of the passage of the Older Americans Act, which established the Federal Administration on Aging (AoA) to direct resources and services to help our nation's older citizens; and
WHEREAS, our community can help older citizens continue to flourish by presenting opportunities for them to share their wisdom, experience, and skills, and by recognizing older adults as a valuable asset in strengthening American communities; and
WHEREAS, among the many fine senior living and community centers in the City of Pittsburgh, there are nine currently in Council District 1:

WHEREAS, older citizens should be honored and celebrated for all that they have achieved and all their hard work and dedication to the City of Pittsburgh; and
WHEREAS, we urge everyone to promote and participate in activities that contribute to helping older Americans make choices for a healthy and rewarding future;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize all older Americans and proclaim May 2013 to be "Older Americans Month" in the City of Pittsburgh.
