WHEREAS, the Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act of 2017 was signed into law designating March 29 as National Vietnam War Veterans Day, in memory of March 29,1973, when the final U.S. fighting soldiers withdrew from Vietnam; and,

WHEREAS, on National Vietnam War Veterans Day, we remember and honor all veterans who bravely sacrificed and served on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces at any time from November 1, 1955 to May 15, 1975, regardless of location, with the distinct recognition of former prisoners of war and families of those still listed as missing in action; and,
WHEREAS, the Vietnam Veterans’ Monument, installed on November 11, 1987 and located on North Shore Drive in the City of Pittsburgh, is offered as a daily reminder that our veterans, living and deceased, are not and will not be forgotten; and,
WHEREAS, it is especially important that the extraordinary contributions of America's Vietnam War Veterans and the sacrifice of their families and caregivers be remembered and recognized; and,
WHEREAS, the freedoms we enjoy today are a direct result of the courage, sacrifice, and devotion of our members of the United States Armed Forces; and,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby honor our Vietnam Veterans and all those who have served our country between November 1, 1955 and May 15, 1975; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare, Friday, March 29, 2024 to be “National Vietnam War Veterans Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
