WHEREAS, Rich Fitzgerald grew up in Pittsburgh's Bloomfield-Garfield neighborhood, and graduated from Carnegie Mellon University. He and his wife Cathy have raised eight children. His passion and love for his family and home motivated him to enter government; and,

WHEREAS, Rich served on County Council representing District 11, from 2000-2011 and was elected Council President four times during his tenure before running for County Executive. He was first elected County Executive in 2011 and has served as County Executive since 2012, being the first executive to serve three full terms; and,
WHEREAS, under his leadership, he has helped to grow our economy and create good jobs. He has strengthened the county's finances and made government more efficient while improving the quality of life for everyone in Allegheny County; and,
WHEREAS, due to his efforts, the county saw a growth in population in the 2020 census, the first increase in 60 years. He has maintained investments in critical programs and services such as transportation and infrastructure and oversaw the development and construction of hundreds of trail miles, and major county park improvements, all without raising taxes as property values increased; and,
WHEREAS, after nearly 24 years in public service, Mr. Fitzgerald still embraces and takes pleasure in working with others to make our county a great place to live, work, play, and stay; and,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Rich Fitzgerald, who will leave a legacy of an impeccable work ethic and ability to bring people together to solve problems; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare, Monday, November 20, 2023 to be “Rich Fitzgerald Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
