Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the Reverend Dr. Sheila Johnson-Hunt for her dedication to her community, her church, the lives of children in youth in the community; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Sunday, August 20, 2017 to be "Reverend Dr. Sheila Johnson-Hunt Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, on Sunday, August 20, 2017, the First Baptist Church of Penn Hills will be hosting an Appreciation Concert in honor of their First Lady and Executive Pastor Reverend Dr. Sheila L. Johnson-Hunt; and,

 

WHEREAS, the Reverend Dr. Sheila Johnson-Hunt, a native of Dayton, Ohio and a graduate of the former Colonel White High School in Dayton, went on to earn both a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education and a Master of Arts Degree in Counseling from Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky.  The Reverend Dr. Hunt then earned her Doctorate of Philosophy in Higher Education from the University of Pittsburgh and her Doctorate of Ministry from the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary; and,

 

WHEREAS, the Reverend Dr. Sheila Johnson-Hunt was ordained into the clergy by the Ebenezer Baptist Church of Pittsburgh under the leadership of the Reverend Dr. J. Van Alfred Winsett and together with her husband, Pastor James E. Hunt, the Senior Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Penn Hills, were the first clergy couple in a Baptist Church in the Pittsburgh area of the Allegheny Union Baptist Association; and,

 

WHEREAS, the Reverend Dr. Sheila Johnson-Hunt has spent 30 years as a college professor and administrator at Western Kentucky University, the University of Pittsburgh, Community College of Allegheny County, Carlow University and the University of Phoenix.  She is also an accomplished musician and international recording artist, with seven recordings to her credit with her eighth recording to be released this Fall.
