Title: Now, therefore be it resoloved that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and congratulate UPMC Canterbury Place on a historic anniversary, And Be it further resolved, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares January 6, 2009 “UPMC Canterbury Place Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

Whereas, on January 11, 1858, members of the Episcopal Church met to discuss the establishment of a home for indigent members of the church; and,
 
 Whereas, on January 3, 1859, the Episcopal Church Home opened as an "asylum for the aged, infirmed, and helpless;" and,
 
Whereas, the Episcopal Church Home moved from its original site near the Point to its present location in Lawrenceville in April of 1861; and,
 
Whereas, it has served disadvantaged members of the community continuously since its opening, at one time providing support to Civil War orphans and later to seniors and the disabled; and,
 
Whereas, the Episcopal Church Home became Canterbury Place in 1985 and UPMC Canterbury Place in 2007; and,
 
Whereas, UPMC Canterbury Place will celebrate 150 years of service to the neediest members of our community in 2009,  
 
Title
Now, therefore be it resoloved that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and congratulate UPMC Canterbury Place on a historic anniversary,
 
And Be it further resolved, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares January 6, 2009 "UPMC Canterbury Place Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
