WHEREAS, on February 22, 2023 at the Byham Theater, the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust is proud to bring Jazz at Lincoln Center Presents: Songs We Love, with Brianna Thomas as a featured performer; and,

WHEREAS, Ms. Thomas made her singing debut at age six and won her first of many competitions at age eight; in her teens she began touring in Europe and was named “High School Jazz Vocalist of the Year” and,
WHEREAS, Brianna Thomas is an acclaimed vocalist, composer, educator and band leader, having worked with legends including Wynton Marsalis, the Count Basie Orchestra, Dianne Reeves, Steve Miller and Dr. Nathan Davis, who founded and directed the Jazz Studies Program at the University of Pittsburgh; and,
WHEREAS, Ms. Thomas performs globally and has been recognized by media outlets such as Vanity Fair, The New York Times and NPR. Her most recent release, Everybody Knows, was named a “Best Album of the Year” by Downbeat Magazine; and,
WHEREAS, Ms. Thomas continues to rise as one of the most engaging voices in music, known for her huge range, incredible pitch control, exceptional scat skills, and fabulous songwriting; and,
WHEREAS, throughout her travels, Ms. Thomas acknowledges with fondness the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust and the city, and,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Brianna Thomas and her significant contribution to the advancement of music in Pittsburgh and around the world;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare, February 22, 2023 to be “Brianna Thomas Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
