WHEREAS, The Robotics Program at Incarnation Academy is an outgrowth of Carnegie Mellon University's National Robotics Program which is designed to educate students about science and technology and introduce them to career options in engineering, programming, and design; and
WHEREAS, The Robotics Program was initiated at Incarnation Academy in 2000 under the direction of Mr. Al Dietrich as an extracurricular activity and has grown to be a part the technology curriculum from kindergarten through eighth grade; and
WHEREAS, The Robotics Program is designed to stimulate independent thinking, foster teamwork, create a sense of self worth, reward creative thinking, and encourage innovation; and
WHEREAS, Incarnation Academy's Robotics Teams have competed for three years in the First Lego League Competitions as well as the May Madness Competitions. The Incarnation Academy Team won first place in the 2003 May Madness Competition and was recognized for outstanding design. Mr. Al Dietrich was recognized by the National Robotics Program for his dedication and numerous hours of volunteer service in the development of the program; and
WHEREAS, The students of Incarnation Academy were featured in the April 2004 issue of SERVO Magazine, a magazine devoted to Robotics. Brian Benny and Andy Geisler received special coverage as young roboticists; and
WHEREAS, Incarnation Academy, under the direction of Mr. Al Dietrich, has established a Summer Robotics Camp offering young people in the region an opportunity to engage in creative problem solving tasks;

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh acknowledge Mr. Al Dietrich for his outstanding commitment to the robotics program at Incarnation Academy and his unselfish willingness to educate the young people of the City of Pittsburgh as well as the youth of America.
