Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh recognizes and commends the Oliver High School JROTC Program for their achievements and dedication over the past 25 years; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby proclaim Wednesday, May 26th as "Oliver JROTC Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

Whereas, the Oliver High School JROTC Program will be commemorating the 25th anniversary of its inception on May 26, 2004; and
Whereas, the Oliver High School JROTC Program has been consistent in its growth and commitment to its students' high academic achievement, and outstanding service to the school and community; and
Whereas, the program is headed by Senior Army instructor, Lieutenant Colonel Michael H. Cassetori, with the assistance of CSM Alton B. Eckert and SFC Marcas Jones, Enlisted Army Instructors; and
Whereas, the Bear Battalion, JROTC unit at Oliver has, for the 9th consecutive year, been recognized as an Honor Unit With Distinction by ROTC Cadet Command, the highest award for a Junior ROTC unit, and also for the 9th consecutive year won the best JROTC Marching Award in the Allegheny County Veterans Day Parade; and
Whereas, the Oliver JROTC unit was the winner of the League Rifle Marksmanship Competition, and also participated in Girls State, Boys State and the Pennsylvania State Police Camp through Communities In Schools; college Orientation Workshop at Virginia Military Institute; and
Whereas, members of the JROTC assisted the Boy Scouts of Allegheny County by conducting classes at Camp Guyasuta, and participated in school support activities including the Open House, Project MOVE, and the Westwood Elementary School Program; and
Whereas, the Color Guard has participated in many events such as performing for the United States Secretary of Education, the Pittsburgh Board of Education Rally, the Sons of the American Revolution Citizenship Ceremony at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Museum, the Negro Education Emergency Drive Annual Scholarship Benefit Dinner, Region III Title I National Coalition of Title I Chapter I Parents Conference, the Oliver High School Graduation Ceremony, and the American Legion's Seventh Annual Youth Achievement Dinner.
