WHEREAS, District Chief Norman G. Auvil has received the Rescue Technician of the Year Award from the Pennsylvania Emergency Health Service Council; and
WHEREAS, this award is to honor an individual rescue technician who has contributed significantly to the development and growth of rescue services in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, Norman Auvil currently serves as a District Chief for the City of Pittsburgh Bureau of EMS, a position he has held for the past 20 years; and
WHEREAS, during his more than 30 year career with the Bureau of EMS, District Chief Auvil has played a central role in the area of rescue; he is a member of the City of Pittsburgh's Hazardous Materials Team; and serves as Chief of the Pennsylvania Urban Search and Rescue's Strike Team 1; and
WHEREAS, in addition to his duties, Norman Auvil has a long history of volunteerism and has been associated with the Cheswick, Parkview, Guyasuta and Monroeville #4 Fire Departments and the Allegheny County Hazardous Materials Team; and
WHEREAS, District Chief Norman Auvil has been involved in some aspect of emergency services for most of his life, as an EMS provider; technical rescuer; team leader or instructor of many rescue disciplines and is regarded by his peers as a skillful provider, leader and teacher who brings a common sense approach to problem solving - a guy who "really knows his stuff'.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does, hereby, commend and congratulate District Chief Norman Auvil for his dedication and service to the residents and visitors of the City of Pittsburgh.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh proclaims Monday, November 23, 2009 to be District Chief Norman Auvil Day in the City of Pittsburgh.
