WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Allderdice High School, the largest of the Pittsburgh Public Schools’ urban high schools, has drawn students from nine diverse communities and offers academic programs at all levels, complemented by a full range of interscholastic, intramural and co-curricular clubs; and,
WHEREAS, Pittsburgh Allderdice High School has a proud history, with a long tradition of excellence and a distinguished record of being amongst the top high schools in the country, having consistently secured Middle States Association accreditation and the Blue Ribbon Award of Excellence by the U.S. Department of Education; and,
WHEREAS, in the 2017-2018 school year, there were 7 National Merit Semi-Finalists. These students are being recognized as part of a group of 16,000 of the highest scorers in the country, representing less than one percent of each state’s high school seniors. In addition, there were 8 National Merit Commended Students who are being recognized as one of the 34,000 students recognized who have shown exceptional academic promise; and,
WHEREAS, National Merit Scholar Semi-Finalists from Allderdice are Lincoln Alkind, Sarah Coufal, James Faeder, Andrew Gu, Marcus Mitchell, Adam Moritz and Megan Sindhi ; and,
WHEREAS, Letters of Commendation were awarded to Vikram Bhat, Joseph Finkelstein, Naomi Frim-Abrams, Andrea Levick, Devin Reints, Isabel Segal and Ashwin Srinivasan; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend Pittsburgh Allderdice High School for its consistent and unwavering emphasis on academics, rigor and diversity in education and congratulates the students who have achieved National Merit Scholar designations; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, December 5, 2017, to be “Allderdice National Merit Scholar Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
