Title: WHEREAS, the men and women who serve and protect the residents of the City of Pittsburgh in the Police Bureau, Fire Bureau, and Emergency Medical Services do so with the utmost professionalism and commitment to serving their fellow citizens; and, WHEREAS, the commitment of the City's public safety personnel to serving their fellow residents requires significant personal sacrifice and further sacrifices made by their families in order to keep Pittsburgh safe; and, WHEREAS, each and every time a member of our public safety services makes the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty while protecting our City, he or she leaves behind a family without a daughter or son, mother or father, or sister or brother, as was the case on April 4, 2009, when three of Pittsburgh's finest, Officers Kelly, Mahyle, and Sciullo gave their lives in the protection of our City; and, WHEREAS, as residents, we are permanently indebted to those members of our public safety services who have made the ultim...

WHEREAS, the commitment of the City's public safety personnel to serving their fellow residents requires significant personal sacrifice and further sacrifices made by their families in order to keep Pittsburgh safe; and,

WHEREAS, as residents, we are permanently indebted to those members of our public safety services who have made the ultimate sacrifice, as well as to their families who have lost an irreplaceable member of their family; and,

WHEREAS, while no amount of financial reparations could ever approach justly compensating these families for their loss, their day-to-day expenses, especially the education of their children, must be provided for; and

WHEREAS, although private donations like, the Fraternal Order of Police's Fallen Hero Fund, go a long way toward paying these expenses, these families deserve additional financial compensation from the City and State that they served so valiantly; and

WHEREAS, Pennsylvania Senate Bill No. 369, sponsored by Senator Sean Logan, provides the family of a fallen public safety officer with financial compensation equal to that individual's monthly salary, paid for by state funds with no or minimal fiscal impact to the city; and,
