WHEREAS, World AIDS Day, observed annually on December 1st, is dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection, and mourning those who have died of the disease; and
WHEREAS, World AIDS Day provides an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, to show their support for people living with HIV, and to remember those who have lost their lives to the disease; and
WHEREAS, this day serves as a reminder that AIDS has not gone away and that there is a critical need to increase funding for programs, research, and support services to prevent the spread of HIV and improve the quality of life for those affected; and
WHEREAS, the City of Pittsburgh stands in solidarity with all community organizations, healthcare providers, and individuals working tirelessly to provide education, testing, and care to combat HIV/AIDS, and recognizes the importance of ending stigma and discrimination; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Pittsburgh pledges to continue partnering with community leaders and health systems to expand testing, increase access to PrEP and antiretroviral therapy, and eliminate barriers to care; and holds a shared hope that through sustained investment, compassion, and science, Pittsburgh will join communities that have ended new HIV transmissions and ensured dignity and health for all;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize December 1st, 2025 as "World AIDS Day" in the City of Pittsburgh, and calls upon all residents to join in this vital recognition; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, in recognition of courage, memory, and the promise of a healthier tomorrow that the City will work with community partners to amplify World AIDS Day messages, support local commemorations, and advance policies that protect health, privacy, and equity for everyone in Pittsburgh.
