WHEREAS, Lillian Rausch, née Abel was born on August 13, 1920; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Rausch grew up on Lautner Street in Troy Hill; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Rausch married Robert Rausch immediately following World War II, in November 1945; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Rausch and her husband bought a home on Herman Street in Troy Hill where she kept home and raised five daughters: Barbara Rausch Liebman, Mary Rausch Lloyd, Joan Rausch Tomlinson, Roberta Rausch Lyons, and Frances Rausch Cerra, of whom all but Barbara are with her today; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Rausch was married to Robert for sixty years and has 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren today; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Rausch has been a devoted Roman Catholic and lifelong member of the Most Holy Name of Jesus Parish in Troy Hill, where she often bakes delicious treats for church functions; and
WHEREAS, until very recently, Ms. Rausch walked to Mass at the Most Holy Name of Jesus Parish every day, and in so doing had gotten to know everyone her path crossed; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Rausch served as President of Christian Mothers; and
WHEREAS, across her long life in Pittsburgh’s Northside, Lillian Rausch has always given a friendly word to everyone she encounters; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh declares Thursday, August 13, 2020, her 100th birthday, “Lillian Rausch Day” here in our most livable City of Pittsburgh.
