WHEREAS, more than 200 special needs guests and their staff will have the chance to get up close to local sports celebrities, including professional and college athletes as well as team mascots at Congregation Beth Shalom Men's Club's Annual Sports Luncheon, which will take place on Sunday, February 19, 2023 at Noon at Congregation Beth Shalom in Squirrel Hill. About 400 total guests are expected to attend the Sports Luncheon.; and,

WHEREAS, this is the first Beth Shalom Men's Club Sports Luncheon since the pandemic started. The last Sports Luncheon was February 2020, one month before the pandemic shutdown; and,
WHEREAS, Beth Shalom Men's Club has hosted an Annual Sports Luncheon or Dinner for more than 60 years; and,
WHEREAS, since 1997, the Beth Shalom Men's Club Annual Sports Luncheon evolved into having many special needs organizations in the Greater Pittsburgh Area. More than 200 special guests and staff from 10 organizations are scheduled to participate in 2023; and
WHEREAS, Andrew Stockey, anchor and sports director from WTAE-TV, has dedicated his time to serving as the event master of ceremonies since the mid-1990's. Emily Giangreco, sports anchor and reporter from WTAE-TV, will emcee the 2023 luncheon; and,
WHEREAS, since the 1990s, athletes from Carlow University and University of Pittsburgh, and professional athletes have served lunch and interacted with special needs guests. The 2023 Sports Luncheon will feature Carlow, Pitt, Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC, Pittsburgh Passion Women's Football, Iceburgh from the Pittsburgh Penguins and Pittsburgh Penguins Alumni; and,
WHEREAS, The Annual Sports Luncheon taking place this month in February coincides with Jewish Disability Awareness & Inclusion Month in the United States. It is an effort among Jewish organizations and communities worldwide to raise awareness and foster inclusion of people with disabilities; and,
