Title: WHEREAS, Jeff Carder grew up in Mt. Washington and has since dedicated countless volunteer hours to improve the safety and quality of life for its residents; and,

WHEREAS, Jeff Carder grew up in Mt. Washington and has since dedicated countless volunteer hours to improve the safety and quality of life for its residents; and,

WHEREAS, Jeff created several groups where residents can share memories, preserve the historical significance of the Mount Washington community or work through issues pertaining to the community; and,

 

WHEREAS, some of his initiatives included keeping city steps clean and safe, and maintaining the Charles A. Lewis Parklet, in partnership with several organizations, by cutting the grass and keeping it free of litter. As a City of Pittsburgh School Crossing Guard, Jeff received recognition for cleaning up trash and overgrown brush on the corners where he crosses children and pedestrians; and,

 

WHEREAS, working with volunteers from the organization Send Relief, Jeff established “Mt. Washington Mondays” to help with beautification projects within the community; and, 

 

WHEREAS, in addition, Jeff has collected items for the homeless, repaired over 300 bikes distributed to neighborhood youth and he has collected sparing gloves for the youth attending the Mt. Washington Boxing Club; and,

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Jeff Carder and the selfless work he does for the neighborhoods of Mount Washington and Duquesne Heights; and,

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare, Tuesday, December 5, 2023 to be “Jeff Carder Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
